Music For the Occassion

Romantic Dinner For Two: Tom Waits “Foreign Affairs” Boozy, after bar music that goes incredibly well with a candlelit dinner. Time to pop the question, or to ask that special someone if they’re into “threesies”! |
For Guys Trying to Show a Sensitive Side: Regina Spektor “Begin to Hope” 2006 Not quite as precious as her last major release “Soviet Kitsch”, and with equally catchy tunes. Eccentric enough not to be completely wussy (but treading very lightly…), this album is great to be “accidentally caught” playing while nursing a run-down stray kitten back to health. |
For a Semi-Rocking Wine Party: Arcade Fire “Funeral” Not gloomy at all, despite the album title. Whimsical, uplifting, music-soul cleansing music if you’ve been listening to the radio all night. And there’s something cool about 3 people in different places in a crowded room simultaneously stopping their conversation to shout “we found the light!” If you are in a conversation with one of these people, however, it probably means they weren’t really listening to you… |
To Chill the Party Down: Thievery Corporation “The Mirror Conspiracy” Almost a cliché by now, but seriously, everything seems a little bit cooler with this on in the background and the lights down low. |
